The Barrett Middle School site presents an exciting opportunity to preserve community history while converting an empty 113-year old landmark into a useful, new community asset. Homeport, a local non-profit developer with 25 years of experience, intends to preserve the architectural features of the Barrett building and create housing that complements the mix currently found in Merion Village and in nearby German Village and Schumacher Place.
In the coming months, Homeport will propose plans for a major investment in the redevelopment of this historic structure and adjacent property. Our goal is nothing short of creating an outstanding development that reflects the character and charm of the neighborhood.
To do this, we have been engaging the community in conversation through a series of public meetings. The next public meeting will be announced soon. Our goal for the meetings is to assure that any new development contributes to the vitality of the neighborhood.
